Fantasy Surf Sessions

About Us

Why do we do this? Passion for surfing, stats, environment
and putting back into grassroots.

Balyn

Balyn grew up on the Mid-North Coast of eastern Australia, nourishing his love of surfing through a diet of empty beach breaks, Taylor Steele VHS cassettes and poor amateur competition results.

As the head writer/analyst for Surf-Stats, he is as comfortable tearing through spreadsheets as he is 6' left-handers.

Ewan

Ewan’s formative surfing years were shaped by sloppy waves in the UK winter, resulting in a complete lack of style but also a constant bemusement at the need for wetsuits in Australian waters.

He has run his own marketing consultancy for the past 5 years, with a strong focus on a pay-it-forward process and pro bono work, which has carried over to being a foundation pillar for Fantasy Surf Sessions.

200x200
Grant

Grant has 45 years experience as a surfer, including in Japan.

He is the former president of Frenchmans Boardriders Club and member of Newcastle Surfboard Association.

Grant is an environmental activist and spokesperson, as well as the former director of Tahitian Blue Water Dream and also the current manager of singer-songwriter G. Wayne Thomas.

A whole new way of playing

Our business model is simple: we want to pay-it-forward and use revenue generated to support 2 causes that are relevant to our users: namely, grassroots surfing and Surfrider Foundation.

A better game means more users; more users means more eyeballs, which equals more brand interest and revenue – which means we can help more! It also means we are creating greater awareness of issues related to our users.

It’s a win-win-win for our 3 stakeholder groups:

  • Users: a better, free game and you’re supporting the broader surf community
  • Sponsors: communicate directly with a relevant you, while also supporting these causes financially
  • Causes: additional revenue and exposure

How is the revenue spent?

Grassroots

We will be supporting the State Surfing bodies across Australia, by directing revenue to help finance local boardrider clubs’ membership.

In particular, we will be encouraging the development of girls’/womens’ surfing through grassroots initiatives.

For more info, please contact your local state body.
